We know packing can sometimes be a pain and getting it right for a weekend away can be especially tricky. Trust us, the key to getting it right is outfitting – planning out what you're going to wear for each day and, crucially, what items match up with what. Get that down in advance and you won't find yourself panic shopping for pants. And if you're looking for a label that does it all, check in with Polo Ralph Lauren. Don't believe us? Dust off your carryall, and allow GQ to demonstrate three interchangeable outfit suggestions superbly suited to your next weekend away (wherever you're headed).
Many guys will go crazy with colour at the first sign of sun, but I'm a big fan of keeping things far sleeker. Do as they do in LA: invest in black and grey jersey separates to warm up in post-surf and liven them up with a burst of neon – far more forgiving at the beginning of a holiday before the real tan kicks in.
If you're headed on a city break, a suit should form the backbone of your wardrobe – wear it together with trainers and a tie at the latest restaurant opening or split it up for hitting the newest exhibition in town. However if you're going for a patterned suit (and we suggest you do), make sure you keep the rest of your outfit simple – an crisp combination for the warmer months is white and cream.
Nothing says "British country getaway" like tweed. However, keep it fresh not only by wearing it with jeans, but also by looking into a material with colour running through the thread. Then pick out all the colours you can with your knitwear – because you'll be seeing plenty of green out in the great outdoors, afterall.
