There are few jumpers out there as versatile as a cable knit crew neck. Why? Not only does it look smart when worn with tailored joggers, but it also adds a sporty edge to a smarter look when slipped under a blazer.

Keep it neutral

There’s a reason neutrals are a big trend this autumn: they go with everything you already own. However, in our opinion, when in the chillier weather, a beige cable knit sweater looks best with jeans, a sleek, light-navy Harrington and fresh white trainers.

Preppy, American style isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Take a leaf out of Teruyoshi Hayashida’s now legendary photobook documenting well-dressed East Coast uni students and invest in some collegiate staples.

Oxford Shirt

Get your Ivy League on

A baseball jacket is the ultimate preppy outerlayer. Slip it over a white button-down Oxford shirt, and wear with dark brown brogues and beige chinos for an outfit that’ll get you extra menswear credit off campus.

PLAY AROUND WITH PATTERNS

Look around and you’ll see patterns of all shapes and sizes are trending. Whether you go for a full-on, all-over print or simply a hint of one on the edges of your collar, there’s been no better time to go for bold.

Try something simple

A good rule to remember: if your shirt shouts, the rest of your outfit should whisper. Limit the rest of your outfit to one colour which compliments the pattern you’ve chosen (usually a navy blue or black works best), and let your shirt speak for itself.
