Introduction

APL Media reached out to us to build a microsite for the Costa Rica Tourism Board to sit within the National Geographic website. This was to promote tourism by showcasing all the wildlife it has to offer. A fun project with an A-Z listing of animals.

Challenge

To design and build a clean and engaging microsite that displays content about wildlife, further information had to visible when the tile was clicked on. A challenge I set myself was that I wanted the experience to feel 'app like' with beautiful popups that were fully responsive.

Solution

Using a dark background made the colourful images really stand out, it was also in keeping with National Geographic's branding that they had provided. The yellow accent had to be strong throughout as that was key to their brand.

Super responsive

The tile layout works great on all screen sizes and when on mobile it becomes even more app like with custom themed scrollbars and popups that take up the full screen. Using lazy load for the images also kept things snappy and smooth.

Results

The promotion was a success, National Geographic and the Costa Rica Tourism Board both were very happy with the end result. National Geographic reported a lot of visits to the promotion as well as a lengthy dwell time shown on analytics.
